Today was “Serious Tourist” day:
Our first stop was the Gardens by the Bay. Here’s a view from above:
To the right and lower left you see the 18 “Super Trees” – each is at least 16 feet tall. Their tops are solar collectors to power the light and air conditioning in the Domes. The dome-like structures are the Flower Dome (the largest greenhouse in the world) and the Cloud Forest.
Our bus let us off near a “grove” of 3 Super Trees.
Our guide explained how the “trees” are designed to eventually be totally covered by the greenery planted in their frame. They really are impressive.
Next we walked over to the Flower Dome and spent the next hour marveling at the variety and vitality of the plants along with the fun sculptures sprinkled among the greenery.
Leaving the Flower Dome we walked the short distance to the Marina Sands Hotel/Casino for a trip to their Observation Deck.
We only had access to the Observation Deck section (roughly a quarter of the whole structure) but we got some great views of the city. This famous hotel has three huge towers topped on the 56th floor by a “surfboard” observation deck, restaurants, and swimming pools!
Back on the bus we wound our way thru town to a repeat of Wednesday’s Bum Boat Ride. This time, though, I got to sit in the open back and take some pictures of ‘local color’
Returning to the ship we had a quick lunch before we met with the group of people who will be coming with us on our private tour to visit Petra next month.
Then it was off to the first of a series of Lectures on India: “India and the United States Since 1947”
Then it was nap-time (Cheryl) and study time (Randy) until…
At 4:15 I turned in our Passports. Apparently this is the immigration process for Malaysia. OK.
Then it was the Port Talk for Kuala Lampur – our destination for tomorrow,
Followed by a Lecture: “Malaysia Today: Progress, Prosperity, & Politics”
And Dinner
And BBB where we eked out 13 of 29 points.
This being St. Patrick’s day they were preparing for a party “under the stars” on the pool deck with green beer, “grasshopper” drinks, and celtic music.
We were feeling the effects of 3 days of a 7 day run of Ports, so we sought refuge in our stateroom where we watched the video of the Port Talk on Langkawi, Malaysia – our destination for Sunday.
Satisfied that we were as prepared as we could be for the next couple of days we crashed.
We’re back at sea, the ship rocked us gently to sleep, to dream, to wonder that we still have 4 more port days to go in this, the longest port run of the entire trip.
Rockin’ On, R
