WC028 – 1/18/2023 – Middle of Nowhere

Walking on deck 2 this morning felt a bit like riding a rocking horse. The swells weren’t huge (by comparison to prior days) but there was enough up and down to make life interesting.

After breakfast we had a bit of downtime – a rare treat today as you will see.

The 9:30 lecture was:

After that lecture, that also covered an overall intro to plate tectonics, we stayed in the Theatre to read and do a bit of homework until the 11:00 presentation

with particular emphasis on the Society Islands (where we will be later this week)

Then it was off to lunch

Where they were grilling clams and oysters on the terrace

Following lunch we had a bit more downtime before the 2:00 meet and greet for participants in the private tour to Mont St. Michelle.

Which was followed in short order by the first rehearsal of the World Cruise Choir. We’ll be performing a medley of Rogers and Hammerstein tunes for the first Cruise Passenger Talent Show.

Which was followed in short order by a discussion on Sir Francis Drake – Ruthless Pirate or National Hero. I took a short nap before Cheryl poked me.

Which was followed in short order by the weekly Bible Study.

Which was followed in short order by a presentation on “The World’s Greatest Living Explorer”

Following a quick supper we had, in short order, our brains busted once again, scoring 7 out of 15.

Daughter Jennifer has asked that we post one of the BBB questions each day. “Sterling silver is made predominately of silver with the addition of one other metal. What other metal is most commonly used to make sterling silver?”

Then we retired to our stateroom to breathe.

Tomorrow is another day. We cross the equator tomorrow which entails a ceremony and aquavit. Should be interesting.

  1. Konyukov at one point on another trip in the southernmost stretch of the Pacific Ocean was so far from land that the nearest human was an ASTRONAUT on the International Space Station – THAT’S how big the Pacific is!

  2. I had a thought for your musical ensemble because of your continual long sea days opportunities … how about singing “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary”???
