Noon Position: N 20º 40′ 48.00″ – W 140º 27′ 18.00″
Not that I’m complaining. Things could be much worse, but today was a bright sunny day with gentle breezes and 20 foot swells. Needless to say walking was an adventure. In the Captain’s noon announcement he reported that he has slowed to 15 knots to help with the rolling and he assured us that he had managed to get far enough south to avoid the worst of the weather so we’re grateful for what we got.
The morning lectures were about Tsunamis in general and the 1046 Hilo Hawaii Tsunami in particular, and the attack on Pearl Harbor from oral histories of people who were actually there.
On our way to lunch we passed thru the Living Room where we found the other members of our Bruce’s Brain Buster team playing bridge.
The afternoon events were:
- a forum (or as much of a forum as you can have with 300 odd (some of them very odd) people) on the proposition that Captain Cook was the Greatest Explorer. At the end the group didn’t seem comfortable assigning that honor to Cook, but were unclear about who would be ranked higher. I think the conclusion is that the question is best left open.
- A lecture on “Hawaii: Landscapes, History and Wildlife” – a broad brush overview of these topics with a few gems:
Dinner was “Indian Night” – Pretty good Tiki and spicy Vindaloo.
Bruce’s Brain Busters was the worst yet: 6 out of 19 didn’t even put us in the running.
We returned to our room to lick our wounds and watch the livestream of the magician show in the Theatre. Pretty good stuff.
So that’s sea day 4 of 6 in this run. The captain has promised that the swells will calm down tomorrow. We’ll see.
Till then, Nite all, R
Oh yeah, Buffalo Trace! Good stuff. Hard to find the large bottles anymore. Keep sippin’ and enjoyin’.
and which end of the buffalo does this come from???
