The morning went fairly smoothly.
✅ Suitcases in the hall
✅ Breakfast
✅ Watch the suitcases loaded
✅ Off to airport
✅ Check in / Check suitcases
✅ Passport control
✅ Second Breakfast while we waited for our gate to open
😞 Thru the security check for our gate (separate security for every pair of gates) – Sigh
I’m not sure what happened, but somehow our passports got flagged for special screening:
Shoes off again
Wipe and analyze for nefarious substances: backpacks, shoes, hands, collars, legs, daybag/purse
Confiscate my scissors – Really? Sorry, I don’t believe this is a Delta Airlines requirement but I’m not willing to die on that hill today. I’ll unload on Delta later.
😞 Then my daybag tested positive for explosives.
Shoes off again
Wipe and test them
Full body pat-down
Wait for the supervisor
He shows up – asks a few questions, has them rescan the bag – negative this time.
I’m free to go.
Thinking back I should have asked him for my scissors back.
✅ Eventually board and head for JFK.
✅ Land in a rainstorm
✅ passport control
✅ retrieve-recheck suitcases
✅ Cheryl and Randy head to our new gate while
✅ Tim and Diane take advantage of the opportunity to have their interviews for Global Entry.
✅ Meet up and grab dinner
✅ Wait for delay in boarding
✅ Board plane
✅ Wait another 45 minutes while they changed the direction of the runways causing a massive traffic jam.
✅ Fly to SLC
✅ Off to the hotel / bed ~1:00 local time (9:00 AM body time).
-=-=- SUNDAY -=-=-
So of course we were awake at the crack of dawn (Mountain time).
We breakfasted, repacked, checked out, loaded the car, and were on the road about 8:45.
The drive was a drive (although I have to say that traffic along the Wasatch Front is really light on a Sunday morning).
We were home at 2:15.
Life is getting back to normal – Sigh.
