Today we had nothing scheduled.
We wanted to have a day to poke around, Show Tim and Diane a bit of the city, maybe do a little shopping, possibly packing.
As we started we paused to get a photo of the restaurant next door. A guide yesterday commented that there is a sizable Vietnamese community in Prague. During the communist era many Vietnamese migrated to central and eastern Europe to fill needed positons.
We stopped to take a photo of people cooling off in the fountain in Wenceslaus square but we did make it to the clock on time.
After seeing the clock we wandered in the general direction of the bridge, stopping several times along the way to check out interesting stores.
We crossed the bridge pausing occasionally to check out a statue or buy a CD from the Charles Bridge Swing Band.
On the other side of the river we paid a return visit to the Three Ostriches for an excellent lunch before wandering a bit farther into the Little Quarter to a gingerbread shop that we saw/smelled yesterday on the Brickyard Plaza but didn’t have time to savor.
Then it was back to the hotel, taking time to engage in my favorite medieval town sport – getting lost and finding yourself again. This time I had the benefit of Google Maps and still managed to get us tangled up (before leading us out of a dark, twisty passageway right were we were supposed to be).
For dinner we walked to a restaurant that we had heard about.
It was adjacent to an interesting sculpture of Franz Kafka’s head that puts on an interesting show every hour.
The show lasts 15 minutes but I’ll only subject you to a bit.
As I was watching that I was thinking “I’ve got four grandchildren – any of whom could code that.”
It was pretty cool anyway.
Dinner over we headed back to the hotel to finally pack.
Tomorrow it’s suitcases in the hall by 8:45 and we’re on the bus to the airport by 9:15.
Till then…
