It started like any other normal day (if by normal you mean the alarm woke us up at 3:55) and we spent the next 35 minutes getting dressed, performing final ‘ready the house for absence,’ and throwing the final few items into baggage.
The Uber guy was early, and so were we so we got to the airport, said Hi to Bob and Marge at TSA (This is Boise, after all)…
Before boarding at 5:45 for our flight to LAX.
Arriving in Los Angeles we wended our way thru (seeming) miles of tunnels to the Tom Bradley International Terminal – where we waited until 8:30 for the Lounge to open.
By 10:30 or so it had filled up and we were napped out so we treked to our gate where we were soon boarding.
The flight from LA to Taipei took just under 14 hours (from noonish Saturday to 5 pm Sunday) and at 8:05 Saturday I composed a “Greetings from Tomorrow” text to our daughters (Didn’t actually send it until later – something about airline wifi or some such. I’m sure I could have figured it out but it was kind-of advanced tech for me and besides I was busy – reading, sleeping, trying to stay hydrated, you know the drill)
Anyway we landed in Taipei a bit early – which is good because we had just over an hour long layover. But it turns out that the Taipei airport seems to be about the size of the OKC airport so we spent almost as much time at a restroom stop as we did making our way from Gate C1 to Gate C5R.
The plane was a fairly full Airbus A330 and I had visions of waiting a long time in the line at passport control. But once you sent all the HK locals to their lines, the 25 of us left were handled very quickly.
We walked thru the customs check, out the door, and right there was the Viking staff waiting to whisk us off to the hotel.
Once checked in we did a bit of unpacking, took a shower (It’s reasonably hot and VERY humid here) and hit the hay.
Tomorrow we experience what purports to be an amazing breakfast buffet and then we have a tour of some of the interesting sites in the city.
On the road again…R
Disregard my phone call and “Have you left yet?” text – it can wait – have a great trip. Also if you are reading this I need 10 – 1000 Yen notes for our trip, seriously. ($70ish) Your 7-11 exchange rate will be better than the bank. I’ll pay you back when you return…. Also bring me some interesting Kit Kats (chocolate bar) flavors. Add them to my bill…..
