The day started slowly. Breakfast, eventually. Then…
Mommy and Papa headed out to Walmart for those few remaining supplies needed to see us thru the last couple of days.
After lunch we lazed a bit more before our excursion for the day – to the Zocalo. Once again, Carli and Te’a joined us.
The Zocalo is the square adjascent to the Cathedral. Around it and extending for several blocks in each direction are an extensive Sunday Market. It’s a combination of store fronts and street booths and it attracts thousands of people.
We wandered, Bought Ice Cream, spent a LONG time in the Alebrije (spirit animal) store, picked up some sweets on the “sweet shop street,” visited the cathedral (no photos allowed) and the Chapel of the Rosary (photos but no flash), and shopped for pottery.
After the Alebrije shop (where Jesse bought a truly spectacular dragon) he wasn’t feeling particularly well and Spencer was showing signs of getting sick so Kim took the boys back to the apartment and left the rest of us to proceed on our own. We followed Cheryl to a Talevera pottery shop and helped her pick out a great serving bowl – Guacamole will taste SO MUCH BETTER in this bowl!
Then we agreed we were hungry. We made our way back to the Zocalo square And found a handy restaurant adjacent to the square. The meal was excellent and we had a good time chatting with Te’a and Carli. We also kept an eye on the sights passing by.
Our Uber driver found us and was able to spirit us away from the crowds. Arriving back at the apartment we said good by to Carli and Te’a and settled in for the evening.
Originally Kim and the boys had planned to accompany us on our adventures tomorrow. However Spencer is getting worse – appears to be a throat thing – so they will stay here while we take our leave. Tomorrow evening we will be in Mexico City where we will have a couple of days to hit the high points. Kim and the boys leave on Tuesday to head back to Norman.
It’s been fun sharing this time with them. But it’s time to pack up and move on.
So it goes.
