Day 7 – 2/23 – Leaving the Crescent

Following breakfast we had one last class – a review of Carnival.

Our instructor:

t

talked about traditions and presented slides showing some of the standard and some of the crazy sights to be seen.

She also gave out “throws” as prizes.

Following this last session we checked out of our room, left our luggage with the front desk and wandered back into the quarter to catch the last couple of significant buildings – including “Napoleon House”.  this is a residence prepared for Napoleon in anticipation of his move from his exile on Elba to New Orleans – a move that never happened because he died before it could happen.

I also got a picture of Bourbon Street during the daytime – quite a different scene during the day.

Following a great lunch at a highly recommended restaurant on Canal Street we visited the Insectarium – a museum devoted to all things bug:

Great Horned Beetle

Termite trap

We also sampled delicacies like King Cake made with crickets instead of note and cinnamon crusted larvae. Yum!

Then it was time to leave.

We walked back to the hotel and caught a cab to the airport where we did airport stuff – sit, read, rest, stand in line, hoist our bags into the overhead compartments, sit, read…

arriving at Oklahoma City, Chris picked us up and drove us down to Norman where we spent some time with the grandsons and generally enjoyed life.

We’ll be in Norman till Wednesday.

We had a great time in New Orleans.  We’ll be back.  Till then:

laissez le bon temps rouler (“Let the Good Times Roll”)
