Day 23 – July 11: Hot town, summer in the city

After a morning of “getting some work done” Cheryl, Kim, Jesse, Spencer, and I took off after lunch  to head up to “the city.”

the first stop was the Science Museum – a rather amazing place with exhibits geared to all ages.

Not pictured (for obvious reasons) is the planetarium show that Nana, Papa, and Jesse saw there.

After that we headed over to the Oklahoma Botanical Gardens (since the temperature outside was over 100 degrees, we thought we’d cool down a bit in the tropical greenhouse there – lower temperature but higher humidity – it was pretty much a tossup.  However Jesse enjoyed identifying several tropical plants (coffee, cocoa, and…)

Pineapple

Following that we headed outside to their splash pad

The enjoyment there was interrupted by a brief interlude when a firetruck responded to a small fire in the medium of the adjacent street

For a brief period the splash pad was the furthest thing from Spencer’s mind as he got to watch real firemen and a real fire truck in action.

Following a successful extenguishment we played in the water for a few more minutes and then it was time for dinner and back to Norman for a rousing game of Settlers of Catan – the Junior edition.

Now we drop into bed and anticipate more fun and exciting times tomorrow.
