If you’ve read the Day 11 post already, this is what really happened.
Sad.
After a somewhat leisurely breakfast (in the World Cafe – Mamsen’s was closed – but Cheryl got a waffle anyway) we headed down to the ‘Living Room’ to wait for our luggage tag color/number (Orange 4) to be called. Things were a bit delayed as you’d expect, but shortly our group was called and we didn’t have to claim our bags. We just got on the bus.
About 3 hours later (we did a bit of napping, watching for wildlife, listening to the driver regale us with information about Alaska, the area we were traveling, the road improvements going on around us, the wildlife we weren’t seeing, stuff like that) we arrived at the convention center in Anchorage where we were reunited with our bags. The plan was that we would wait until the scheuled shuttle to take us to the airport at the appropriate time. However, they soon discovered that everyone on our bus needed to be at the airport before the first scheduled shuttle at 3:00. So we made a comfort stop, grabbed our bags (which were loaded on our bus) and it was back on the bus and off to the airport. We arrived there about 12:30 for a 4:45 flight. Obviously the ticket counter wasn’t open yet. So we found some lunch and hung out a bit (reading, napping). Eventually the ticket counter opened and we checked in – for our delayed flight – but they gave us meal vouchers for dinner.
While we waited some more we wandered a bit and captured a bit of the artwork and information around the airport.
Eventually we did leave at ~8:45. That put us into Vancouver right at midnight and by the time we cleared passport control and retrieved our luggage it was after 12:30.
[Insert whine about hotel shuttles that stop running at 12:30.]
When we got to the hotel they did reimburse us for our taxi fare.
So I’ll stop whining now.
About 1:30 we turned off the lights and settled down for a nap.
So that’s the day.
More later,
R
