Costa Rica Christmas – Day 10 – 12/28/24 – A Walk in the Woods

(With apologies to Bill Bryson)

Today was waterfall hike day.
We (8 of us – Chris stayed behind with still sick Spencer) loaded up a van and headed across country up into the hills to Tenorio Volcano National park

Along the way one of our number succumbed to the driving style of the Formula 1 driver piloting our van so Brian stayed behind at the trailhead with Renner while the rest of us took off for a very quick walk to “the waterfall”.

We managed to make it to the waterfall before the clouds settled in (dampening the beautiful color of the water in the pool).

Then it was the climb back up the hill (except for Cheryl who had the sense to not go down) and back to the van for the trip home. (The day had intended to include a bit more hiking / sightseeing but weather was turning so we decided to call it.)

Back at the condo some of us rested / soaked in the pool while the Hunts headed for the beach.

The beach, like most beaches in the area, is black volcanic sand. It’s not necessarily a swimming beach, but it has some great natural wonders (hermit crabs, tide pools, and such).

On their way back from the beach they stopped at the adjacent restaurant to pick up an order of food for dinner.

After supper it was time for a final game of Worst Case before we separated to our rooms to begin the sad process of packing.

So that’s day 10.
Tomorrow we head northward – back to winter.

Till then,
R
